Seda UK enjoys visit from Italian Ambassador and Welsh First Minister

Please see below for some exciting news from our sister company in Wales, Seda UK.

The Italian Ambassador to the UK has paid a visit to a Blackwood packaging company to see how Welsh Government finance is helping its expansion.

First Minister Carwyn Jones welcomed Pasquale Q Terracciano to Italian-owned Seda UK in Blackwood last week.
The company, which manufactures a range of food packaging for major global clients, announced a five-year £18 million investment in March last year. The expansion scheme is aimed at creating 73 new jobs and safeguarding 100 existing positions.

The project is being backed with £5.4m of business finance from the Welsh Government.
As well as the Italian Ambassador, the First Minister also met with Seda Group CEO Antonio D’Amato to see the progress that has been made so far on the project – including investment in new plant and machinery – and to learn more about planned developments.

The First Minister said: “I’m delighted that the Welsh Government has been able to support Seda UK since it moved to Wales in 2004, including this latest phase of growth and investment.
“The £18m project is creating and safeguarding a significant number of jobs and providing real benefits to the local community. It is also enabling this world leading company to expand even further and meet the growing demand for its wide range of products.”

Seda UK, based on Hawtin Park, is a subsidiary of the family-owned Seda International Packaging Group SpA, which has twelve manufacturing plants around the world. Its latest project was won by Seda UK against stiff competition from other European manufacturing companies.

Managing Director, Lorenzo Angelucci said: “It is an enormous honour for us to welcome First Minister, Carwyn Jones, here at Seda UK, together with the Italian Ambassador, Pasquale Terracciano, and our Group President and CEO, Antonio D’Amato. “We are extremely proud of this opportunity. “It is confirmation of the strong relations we have created within Wales, and of the significant success and growth the company has achieved in recent years. “This will continue, thanks to the commitment of Seda Group to invest in Wales, and the support we receive from the Welsh Government and local authorities.” The company has so far invested £9m in the Blackwood facility as part of the current project.

The Blackwood plant produces a vast range of paper cups, containers, plastic lids for hot and cold drinks, dairy products and folding cartons. The facility also has a full-scale graphic design department and a Research and Development centre.

SEDA WORKS WITH HEINE BROTHERS' COFFEE TO CREATE NEW BRAND PACKAGING THAT CUSTOMERS CAN SEE AND FEEL

August 30, 2013 - Mount Pleasant, WI - With a serious eye towards social responsibility, 13 retail locations, and a 20-year history that connects them to Louisville and the planet, Heine Brothers' Coffee has become an integral part of busy mornings for residents and visitors.

In May of this year, Heine Brothers' retail stores made a major change in how their customers enjoy their coffee. Working with packaging leader Seda North America and StrADegy Advertising, they created a truly unique design for their new insulated double wall insulated coffee cups. The innovative design includes Heine Brothers' logo and stylized artwork illustrating the journey of a coffee bean from seed to cup.

The unique new cup, from Seda North America, is designed with a patented air chamber for insulation and a level of quality their customers can actually feel when they pick it up. With the new Double Wall cups, no pulp sleeve or jacket is required, allowing the artwork and brand message to be fully visible.

Seda's Double Wall cups are 100% recyclable where available and are made from renewable or partially renewable sources. Seda is globally committed to providing a consistent sustainable answer to the many environmental challenges being faced today. Providing an improved customer experience and an improved packaging environmental profile is Seda's primary goal. All of these features, coupled with Seda's state of the art, 10-color printing capability, provides coffee shops, convenience stores and foodservice operators with powerful marketing, promotional and brand building tools.

Mike Mays, Co-owner/Operator - Heine Brothers' Coffee added; "Our customers really love the new cups from Seda. We continue to get compliments on the design, and they are amazed that even with the hottest fresh coffee, the cup is only just slightly warm to the touch. Best of all, there is no sleeve needed that will cover our logo and our brand message. After running the numbers on the new Seda cup, without the sleeve, we are actually saving money and our brand message walks out the door thousands of times every day in our customer's hands."

Customers are more satisfied because their beverage stays hot and flavorful longer with the insulating effect of the double wall construction and that helps build repeat sales. Heine Brothers' is the only chain of coffee shops in Louisville serving exclusively Fair Trade & Organic coffee. They are committed to operating responsibly and sustainable and are founding members of the world's 1st fair trade coffee buying cooperative.

Ira Maroofian, Managing Director for Seda North America, said; "The voice of the customer is the real inspiration for these award winning designs. We work really hard to stay in touch with what our customers want and our design team works directly from their feedback. It's always rewarding to hear from operators like Heine Brothers' how our partnership is helping them build their brand and revenue."

Seda North America achieves FSSC 22000!

This month has brought a lot of exciting news for Seda North America. We have joined some amazing networks here in Wisconsin, pushed a brand new website live (check it out here; www.sedapackaging.com) and now we are able to officially announce that we are FSSC 22000 certified!

Seda North America has become the first US paperboard food packaging company in the United States to achieve the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Food Safety System Certification (FSSC 22000) bench marked standard.

FSSC 22000 is a GFSI-bench marked standard based on ISO 22000, with an added prerequisite program audit called PAS 223-2011, which Seda achieved. This internationally accepted certification scheme for is used for auditing and certification of food safety in the whole supply chain of an organization.

Seda North America’s customers can be confident that products purchased are not only of the highest quality but have been manufactured by meeting the requirements of this stringent food safety standard. This recent certification is an outstanding accomplishment for Seda North America, the newest member of Seda International Packaging Group, one of the world’s leading privately owned manufacturers of food packaging.
Very few food packaging manufacturers are currently FSSC certified as it is a long process usually brought about by customer demands. Standard audit time is 8 month to 1 year; Seda was able to achieve this standard in 4 months, including audit and certification.
Cliff Albert, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Seda North America said “Food safety is the number one concern for our brand partners and packaging plays a very important role in their supply chain.  FSSC 22000 Certification ensures that we have the most effective food safety systems in place.  Being the first food service packaging company in North America to gain certification is an honor but more importantly, we hope our commitment helps raise the level of standards for safety within the packaging industry”.
Seda North America is currently the only US paperboard food packaging company with FSSC and 1 of only 6,155 companies worldwide who hold the certification.

We could not have achieved this level of certification without the help of all employees at Seda North America, especially our quality control team.
Congratulations to all involved!
